President's New Year Message

Happy New Year Rotarians,

It’s often said that the most precious gift you can give is Time. When you give of your time, you give a little of yourself and a part of your life to someone else. Time in the service of oth-ers is what defines all Rotarians.

For the last six months, our members have spent an enormous amount of time planning and preparing spectacular service projects, fellowships, events and activities that have truly created hope in the world. Our Members have done so with great enthusiasm and passion. You will find few details and great pictures of these engagements featured in this new year Newsletter!

Our Board should be congratulated for being the driving force, they gathered great teams of enthusiastic volunteers consisting of members, friends and family, and Rotaractors for spectacular success and in so doing, bring lots of joy and laughter to the communities we so diligently serve. Our first Club Global Grant is off the ground and the AIC Kajiado Childcare Centre fraternity will not only have water but also a well irrigated vegetable garden.

So many of our members give of their time and service. As you may know, the definition of service is changing in Rotary constantly challenged by the hard realities of work and life that demands our time and forces us to prioritize our attention to various issues. As a result, we stand now at 78 committed Rotarians. We have the numbers to make a difference.

At The Rotary Club of Nairobi Thika Road, we need to talk about what service means to us. Our Club Board of Directors is engaged in this  conversation and I encourage you to get involved in this dialogue as well. As our membership evolves with the ever changing world in which we live and work, we need to be responsive and flexible with how we define time and service to Rotary. In this regard, we shall be engaging further and we’ll shortly begin discussions around our Strategic priorities and hopefully document them in this 3rd Quarter of the Rotary Year. This will give our President Elect Kui Gitonga and her incoming team more focus as they plan for the Rotary Year ahead!

The world needs Rotary, now more than ever. Our singular mission is to improve the lives of people and to create a better world. In whatever way you choose to serve Rotary, I sincerely thank you for your ongoing commitment to our community and our Club.

This new year, I hope you take the time to reflect on the many blessings of your life and the privilege to be of service to others. I extend our very best wishes for a bright New Year to you and your families.

Happy New Year 2024. May God bless you always.

Residents of AIC Kajiado Childcare Centre are set to benefit from a water supply project geared towards equipping of a borehole and implementation of a drip irrigation system within the Centre. The system will enhance the efficiency of farming practices, contributing to the production of nutritious and ample food resources at the center hence supporting the well-being of the children. Thanks to the generous support from the Rotary Foundation and international partners, the Global grant for this initiative has received approval. On Monday, December 18th, 2023, members of the Project Committee held a kick-off and site handover meeting with both the contractors responsible for the project and the beneficiaries, AIC Kajiado Childcare Centre.

In a momentous event that will be etched in the annals of the Rotary Club of Nairobi Thika Road’s history, the club welcomed a cohort of 24 new members on September 16, 2023, bringing our family to a thriving 87 members strong.

This marked a significant milestone as it was the largest number of inductees since the club’s charter six years ago. The ceremony, held at Kidventurous in Garden Estate, Nairobi, was a testament to the club’s commitment to fostering community service and fellowship.

The journey to becoming Rotary members for these 24 individuals was not just a formality but a rigorous and purposeful process. The inductees underwent five mandatory training sessions, thoughtfully organized and conducted by the club’s membership team. Read more..

Soko Fellowship

The work of Rotary begins in the community, and every community has its own unique needs and concerns. While we serve in countless ways, we’ve focused our efforts in various key areas to maximize our impact. Among the areas of focus is  Economic and Community Development which is the theme for the month of October.

On October 3rd 2023, Our club hosted a SOKO fellowship, where Rotarians came together to streghten bonds, promote each other’s businesses and exchange ideas. Rotarians proudly presented their ventures, creating opportunities to support one another. The event drew attendance from fellow Rotarians, Rotaractors from neighbouring clubs, emphasizing unity and collaboration. Special mention goes to our Mother Club, The Rotary Club of Thika West for bringing over 20 members to the fellowship. Read more..

Our Club has been famously known for Vasha Installations “Vasha” is a short form of the resort town of Naivasha some 89 Kilometers away from Nairobi. Its home to the famous Lake Naivasha known for its strong populations of hippos and flamingos. There are over 1,500 hippos in the area, and you are almost guaranteed to see one. The lake is a birder’s paradise as it is home to over 400 bird species and it’s a good distraction from the hustle and bustle of the City. This year we celebrated our 5th Installation Ceremony and the 3rd in the town. Read more..
