From Dreams to Digital Reality: Birisha School Gets a Digital Literacy Lab
Tucked away in the quiet village of Birisha on the leeward side of Mt. Kenya lies St. Monicah Birisha Comprehensive School — a humble institution that has served its community for more than three decades. For years, access to digital tools and quality learning materials felt like a distant dream.
On 26th July 2025, that dream became a reality.
A Digital Leap Forward
Thanks to the Rotary Club of Nairobi Thika Road, the school is now home to a fully equipped Digital Literacy Lab — a vibrant space where students can explore technology, build 21st-century skills, and broaden their learning horizons.
Funded under the Elimika Grant, this milestone represents far more than computers and internet access. It is a doorway to opportunity, equity, and hope for children who once learned under very tough conditions.

It wasn’t just an escape from the routine—it was a celebration of fellowship, laughter, and the powerful connections that make our Rotary family thrive.
Set against the lush backdrop of the resort, the day unfolded with engaging team-building activities that not only brought out our competitive sides but also reminded us of the value of collaboration, support, and trust. Brightening Lives with Solar Power: A Life-Changing Water Project at Maralal DEB Primary School
What an incredible weekend it was!
In the true spirit of “Service Above Self,” the Rotary Club of Nairobi Thika Road, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Nairobi Lang’ata, delivered a transformative and award-winning project to the heart of Samburu County.
Our destination: Maralal DEB Primary School, a vibrant institution serving 2,447 pupils and 52 teachers. For years, the school community faced a significant challenge—lack of access to clean water. Pupils had to walk approximately 1 kilometre to fetch water from a well, a daily routine that disrupted learning and compromised hygiene.
This weekend marked a turning point.
Through a strong collaboration and with the generous support of Davis & Shirtliff, we successfully supplied and installed a solar-powered well pump at the school. The system now pumps water from the well directly to elevated storage tanks, providing clean water across the school compound—efficiently, reliably, and sustainably.

A Celebration of Hope: Sharing Joy with KPSEA Candidates at Kariobangi North Primary
Each year, as exam season rolls around, the Rotary Club of Nairobi Thika Road comes together to bring a little extra comfort and a lot of love to the young candidates of Kariobangi North Primary School. Through our annual Skip a Meal, Create Hope, Ignite Change campaign, we aim to ease the pressure of national exams by nourishing both the minds and spirits of the students.
This year was no different. As the 154 KPSEA candidates sat for their important assessments, they were supported by the warm hearts and generous hands of our club members. Throughout the exam period, the candidates were treated to balanced, nutritious meals—fuel for both focus and confidence. It was more than just food; it was a gesture of encouragement, a reminder that they are seen, valued, and cheered on by their community.

Restoring Dignity and Health Through WASH: A New Chapter for Kanyangasi Comprehensive School
On September 28th, 2024 the Rotary Club of Nairobi Thika Road proudly marked a moment of transformation at Kanyangasi Comprehensive School in Central Kabuoch, Ndhiwa Constituency, Homa Bay County.
Guided by compassion and a commitment to service, the club officially handed over a Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) project—a life-changing intervention delivering 10 modern ablution units and a reliable clean water supply reticulated from a nearby community borehole.
Prior to this initiative, the school grappled with deeply concerning challenges. The lack of adequate sanitation and clean water threatened the dignity, health, and safety of both students and teachers. Hygiene-related illnesses were prevalent, and absenteeism—particularly among girls—was steadily increasing. Despite the school’s efforts, the absence of basic infrastructure undermined the learning environment and hindered educational outcomes.

AIC Kajiado Borehole Project
Residents of AIC Kajiado Childcare Centre are set to benefit from a water supply project geared towards equipping of a borehole and implementation of a drip irrigation system within the Centre. The system will enhance the efficiency of farming practices, contributing to the production of nutritious and ample food resources at the center hence supporting the well-being of the children. Thanks to the generous support from the Rotary Foundation and international partners, the Global grant for this initiative has received approval. On Monday, December 18th, 2023, members of the Project Committee held a kick-off and site handover meeting with both the contractors responsible for the project and the beneficiaries, AIC Kajiado Childcare Centre.
