Ever had a friend who always looked out for you? Who always made sure that you’re progressing? If not then look for new friends, immediately. My Rotary Journey began when my good friend, colleague and mentor Joy Wanja Muraya requested me to attend their Club Fellowship at RC Langata. She told me I had to be formally dressed and carry my business card, you all know when it comes to dressing I don’t disappoint ☺️ there I was in a Brown official attire. It was on a Thursday 11th January 2019, I was there 1 hour before time and the room was packed to capacity, To be honest I kind off felt intimidated (which hardly happens) all these people in suits, CEO’s , Honourable members. At 7pm, there was the sound of the bell, we all stood up to say Rotary Grace, all this time am trying to absorb this new environment. After the announcement we had a Guest Speaker, a young lady she was giving a talk on her experience working in Brazil, quite interesting talk. Soon after we had Swallowship (meet and greet) the rest is History. I was completely convinced and immediately knew that I’ll soon join a Rotary Club near my place. I joined Rotary club of Nairobi Thika Road and after a few training sessions I was inducted, 23rd October 2020. Soon after I was requested by Joy to support their club on a Project that they had in Gakoigo Muranga County, they were launching a new library. Now this is where I got to experience first Hand Rotary Project and it’s impact in the society. We mentored the young girls and gave them hope. I went home feeling like a super star 🌟, I was so fulfilled. I knew that I had to actualise our mantra, ‘Service above Self’ and so when I was called to serve as Director of Public Image I had no choice but to heed the call. My work was to simply Amplify Rotary’s voice by using my skills and trade.
Joining Rotary has made me a better person and made me appreciate the little things that life has to offer, I am now more aware of the needs in my community.
